Printers, copiers and fax machines are becoming major components of Ewaste in Australia.

Manufacturers have recently cut prices on hardware and aim to make their profits selling the consumables - copy paper and ink cartridges.

An inkjet printer that would have cost $500 five years ago now costs less than $100. A new printer might cost $50 and contain $70 worth of ink - when it runs out of ink, it's cheaper to throw it out and buy a new one.

Even if equipment is retained, discarded toner and ink cartridges are one of the most potentially damaging components of a printer to the environment.

As with our PC recycling service, MRI can recycle printers, copiers and fax machines completely, recover parts for reuse, or test and refurbish them for reuse by others.

Reuse is not only environmentally sound, it allows disadvantaged members of our community access to inexpensive technology.

MRI has also commenced recycling cartridges at our Melbourne facility. The process is EPA approved and compliant with ISO 14001 standards.
